The area around Gyeongbokgung Palace, the main palace in Seoul from ancient times. Seochon and Bukchon, two hanok (traditional Korean housing) villages flanking the east and west of the palace are great areas to visit for art galleries, food, cafes, and shopping. While you're in this area, make your way down to Insa-dong and Ikseon-dong for traditional Korean teahouses and crafts.
An artsy area surrounding Hongdae University, one of Seoul's most prestigious universities of art. Here, you will find cute and bank-account-friendly shops, restaurants, and cafes. Make sure to drop by the Yeonnam-dong area just up the road for a nice walk through streets of cafes.
The one from that song Gangnam Style. If you're looking for luxury shopping and fine dining, the Cheongdam area is the place to be. Here, you will find most of Korea's Michelin Star restaurants as well as flagship stores for most luxury brands. If you're looking for something more normal-priced, the Coex Mall is the biggest in Seoul and a great place to shop some local Korean brands.
